When to apply face cream after a facial, threading or waxing

After threading or waxing, wait about 24 hours before applying a face cream with active ingredients or fragrance; after a regular facial, wait until the next night, and after a bleach or chemical peel, wait two to three days or as your parlour or dermatologist advises. Until then, keep it simple: cool water, a plain fragrance-free moisturiser or aloe gel, and sunscreen if you step out.

Why the wait matters

Threading and waxing pull out hair from the root and remove a thin top layer of skin, leaving tiny openings that can sting and redden. A facial often includes scrubbing, steam, massage and extraction, which leave skin warm and more reactive for a few hours. Active ingredients and fragrance are perfectly fine on calm skin, but on freshly treated skin they are more likely to cause burning, redness or small bumps, especially in hot, humid Indian weather when skin is already sweating.

Going back to your regular cream
